Biological Nitrogen Fixation of Cowpea in a No-Till Intercrop under Contrasting Rainfed Agro-Ecological Environments

چکیده
Nitrogen (N) availability under no-till intercropping systems has not been widely investigated in diverse agro-ecological regions Limpopo Province. Two seasons of rainfed experiments were conducted during 2018/19 and 2020/21 a 2 × 4 factorial design to measure the biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) ability cowpea an system with four grain sorghum cultivars at two test locations, Ofcolaco Syferkuil, Province using natural abundance technique. The isotope composition (δ 15N‰) ranged from 0.2 ‰ 4‰ Ofcolaco, whereas range was 7 ‰. N derived air (Ndfa) 35% 92% 4% 70% Syferkuil cropping seasons. amount N2 fixed across locations 1 kg ha−1 71 ha−1. In system, more higher densities compared lower experimental sites. Biomass significantly correlated accumulated by (r2 > 0.9) all sole cultures 30% 36% binary cultures. Furthermore, treatment combination, density, as well affected accumulation. For high productivity, intercrop cultivar Enforcer is recommended, both crops complemented each other when intercropped. research should investigate further root distribution biomass production cowpea, their impact on intake.

Study of Grain Yield and Agro-Physiological Characteristics of Some Promising Rainfed Bread Wheat Genotypes under No-Till Condition
In order to evaluate the productivity potential of some bread wheat varieties and promising lines under no-till rainfed condition two different on-farm trials were conducted in cold (Sonqor) and warm (Sarpol-e Zahab) regions of Kermanshah province during 2017-18 cropping season. In the cold condition, 12 winter genotypes and in the warm condition 32 spring genotypes were evaluated for grain ...
متن کاملTowards an ecological understanding of biological nitrogen fixation
N limitation to primary production and other ecosystem processes is widespread. To understand the causes and distribution of N limitation, we must understand the controls of biological N fixation. The physiology of this process is reasonably well characterized, but our understanding of ecological controls is sparse, except in a few cultivated ecosystems. We review information on the ecological ...
متن کاملBiological Nitrogen Fixation of Summer Legumes and Their Residual Effects on Subsequent Rainfed Wheat Yield
Biological nitrogen fixation is the most important biochemical reaction for life on earth. Phosphorus and rhizobium inoculation increased N2-fixation by legumes. Legumes in rotation with cereals contribute to the total N pool in soil and improved cereals yield. In view of importance of grain legumes and the role they can play in maintaining soil productivity and succeeding cereal yield, rotatio...
متن کاملMechanism of Biological Nitrogen Fixation
Recently Phelps and Wilson (1) reported the occurrence of hydrogenase, the enzyme which activates molecular hydrogen, in nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Because HZ specifically inhibits nitrogen fixation by red clover plants inoculated with Rhizobium trijolii as well as by Azotobacter (2,3), possession of hydrogenase by these organisms may be more than merely fortuitous. The possibility must be consi...
